Love that for you - Weekend Notes ★★★★★

If you missed out on booking tickets for Tash York's ShowLove That For You, then you're out of luck. As part of the Midsumma Festival, it comes/came to an end (Sat 10 Feb 2024 at 7pm) atChapel Off Chapel, 12 Little Chapel St, Prahran, by end of Festival. A brand new show - a world premiere completely filled with original music only, and co-written by Tash and theDavid Butler Studio and Peppy Smears, this is a Tash York that's honed her craft with experience, delivering a fully polished show with aplomb, her first all original cabaret. This beauty gets better with age like a fine wine, which she loves obviously (These things Take Wine; Tash York's Happy Hour; Winefulness - the list goes on); her support acts/backup singers/instrumentalists, aptly named 'Red Red Wines' - say no more!

WithPeppy Smears aka bearded drag provocateur, cabaret queen and creature of the night, on keyboard, and the other half of the duo,Red Red Wines-Vivian Fonteyn(cabaret and burlesque artist) on violin, every song sung with Tash's strong, smooth and controlled vocals coupled with good sound engineering and acoustics of the venue, it was beyond magical. So clear, you could hear a pin drop. Tash has lost none of her magic and has emerged as an even more accomplished artist (over the years I've seen her) to be reckoned with!

Under her makeup, big hair, big personality lies a vulnerability which Tash released to the audience last night, making it a heartfelt performance that probably educated some and had many identifying with all she said. She was a honey loved by all, witnessed by the room filled almost to capacity, and a long-standing ovation. I have to say having the violin in the show was the cherry on top. Beautifully manipulated by Vivian, it was a magical addition that heightened the musical numbers. Everyone beautifully dressed with big hair (Tash - loved her big red (like wine) hair), it was indeed a show that deserves to be on a large stage. Though mind you,Chapel Off Chapel's setup was impressive with private table and chair settings for those who boughtTable Seattickets up front and close to the stage. Sitting in the first row, I had a good view of all the action, not that you could go wrong sitting in any seat in 'The Chapel'. It's intimate enough to be up-close-and-personal with the entertainers.

Tash covered everything that was in the spiel for her show with humour and originality, and then some. There's some audience involvement when Tash creates a song on the spot for one audience member, 'reading her' from her keys like a clairvoyant, along with keywords that are part of the audience member's life. It was spot-on, highlighted Tash's prowess as a creative, and entertaining for all. Then there were the acronyms, you need to hear to believe. If I recall, Tash's special acronyms may well be printed on tees in the foreseeable future. For all of Tash's merch, including dates of her upcoming shows, scanning the image below (Tash's card I picked up at the show) should work, or you can simply go to her website. Overall, a fantastic show enjoyed by all. Next time you see one of Tash's shows in the headlines, run, don't walk - for tickets.
